Tips and Tricks for heat applying transfer papers

For some inkjet transfer papers, bleeding can be a major issue. Recommendation: Do not to print with more than 720 dots per inch.

Transfer Paper - Always identify the paper. Determine if it is cold peel or hot peel first. Make sure the appropriate temperature and time are being used. This is usually 350-375° F for 8-12 seconds at medium pressure unless. For hard substrates, identify the object and determine what is the appropriate temperature and time recommended by the manufacturer to perform the transfer. Please note that in some instances the use of a silicone pad is required.

Texture - The peel of the transfer paper will determine what type of texture the transferred images will end up with. As mentioned before, a cold peel paper will give you a glossy-plastic type texture and a hot peel will give you a matte, rougher type texture.

Stretch - Stretchability depends on the type of fabric, but it is very important that when the fabric which contains a transferred image is pulled, that the image regains its original shape without tearing. If there is tearing, one may be able to peel off the transfer from the fabric.

Washability
- Washability is a very important factor, as it has a direct effect on the quality of the image over time. Always wash garments with inkjet transfers applied inside out. Use a mild detergent and try not to use bleach. These tips combined should give the garment 8-15 washes of life.

Durability - Combining all of the aforementioned items will determine how durable the transferred image performs.

Washing and Drying Tricks For Inkjet Transfer Images:

Do's and Don'ts:

Do: Always turn your clothes inside out before washing to minimize scratching.

Do: Make sure the product being washed is set at the correct water temperature setting.

Do: Sometimes the color will fade. By adding a cap full of vinegar to the first wash will help lock in the colors.

Do: Wait 24 hours after heat application before washing your printed garment. If the transfer is not 100% cured, the image will fade during the first washing.

Don't: use bleach as this will attack the adhesion of the transfer and could possibly wash away some of the colors. Check the manufacturer of the paper for their recommended washing instructions.

Don't: leave wet garments in the washing machine after it stops because it can cause the colors to bleed onto other parts of the garment or adjacent garments. If this happens immediately rewash all the garments.

Don't: Tumble dry the garment on high in a dryer that doesn't have an automatic 10 -15 minute cool down cycle.

Don't: leave the garment in the dryer.
